HECS Cut

The Albanese government promises to reduce student loan debts by 20%, wiping out around $16 billion in debt for about 3 million Australians. The policy will take effect by 1 June 2025.

Tax Cuts

New income tax cuts for all Australian taxpayers were legislated in March, with cuts from 16% to 15% planned to begin in July 2026 and continue in July 2027 from 15% to 14%.

Working from Home Tax Deduction

Australians working from home can claim an instant $1,000 tax deduction starting from the 2026-27 financial year.

International Student Visa Fees

Visa fees for international students will rise from $1,600 to $2,000 from 1 July 2025, helping fund other election promises.

Bulk Billing

Aimed at expanding bulk billing across Australia, Labor said these changes will mean that nine out of 10 GP visits will be bulk billed by 2030. The changes will come into effect on 1 November 2025.

Solar Batteries

The government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program will cut the cost of installed batteries by 30%, effective 1 July 2025.

Subsidised Childcare

New legislation will allow families earning between $50,000 to $100,000 to save on childcare costs, with activity tests being scrapped. These changes will begin January 2026.
